Asti took her first flight lesson while 3 months pregnant and fell in love with it instantly. It was not until her third child was a bit older that she decided to truly commit herself for full flight training. Juggling three children, running a household, and flight school was not easy but she was determined. The class had 42 students, and 4 were women. Half way through there were only 12 students left including 2 women. Towards the end there were only 8 students with Asti being the only female. She completed the course and attained her PPL (Private Pilot License). Soon she also completed her Night Rating, Float Rating, and Multi-Engine Ratings.
Asti joined the Ninety-Nines Women Pilots Organization and later became the Chapter Chair for the First Canadian Chapter. She organized and coordinated Poker Runs, pilotsʼ meetings, fly-in events, aviation presentations, and many others. Asti participates in the Gold Cup Air Rally with fellow female pilots, and is the Aviation Education Chair. This volunteer role requires her to go to various schools within the community to arrange and hold aviation presentations to students in various age groups. Including teaming up with the ladies from the Canadian Women in Aviation in helping the young girls gain their Girl Guide Aviation Badges, and presenting at the OSC (Ontario Science Centre) on an annual basis for Environment Month. Asti also assists in taking aerial photographs for Operation Skywatch for the Ministry of Environment, and was one of the original members for the Elsie McGill Northern Lights Award Committee.
When not taking people up for sightseeing tours, aerial photography, volunteering her flight services for charity fundraisers, and making many fall in love with the skies, Asti enjoys flying her aircraft to various destinations for the sake of the adventure and for the love of flying. She has flown to many places including New Brunswick, Chicago, Michigan, Denver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Diego, the Grand Canyon, and Catalina Island.
Asti is in process of simultaneously completing her Commercial and Multi-Engine Instrument Training. While starting helicopter and bush flight/ski training.
